Industrial digital economy

Policy & Politics

SectionUpdated

Legislatures, courts and lobbies deciding what the digital economy is allowed to do. Technology policy is made in committee rooms long before it reaches a headline, and by the time a rule is announced the arguments that shaped it are already a matter of public record. This section reads that record.

In practice that means following bills from committee stage to vote rather than reporting the launch and the outcome and nothing in between, reading judgments instead of the press releases issued about them, and checking lobbying registers to see who declared meetings with whom. Where a consultation closes, we look at who responded. Where an amendment dies quietly, we try to say who killed it.

This is also the section our general feed publishes into, which means syndicated posts appear here alongside our own reporting. Each of those is marked on its own page, so you can always tell which is which — a mixed feed is honest only if the labels are.
